Team USA Dominates In Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY -- The 14U National Team received stellar pitching and produced quality runs as the U.S. moved to 3-0 at the COPABE Pan Am "A" Qualifier, defeating Honduras 18-0 at the Enrique "Trapo" Torrebiarte Stadium on Tuesday.
The U.S. team has outscored its opponents 64-0 in three games. The U.S. was off on Tuesday and will take on unbeaten El Salvador (2-0) today at 3 p.m.
Shiloh Christian freshman David Petrino is a member of the U.S. team
Jimmy Wallace (1-0) started for the U.S. and went three innings, facing the minimum nine batters in the game, tallying five strikeouts and surrendering only one hit.
Chris Rivera (Anaheim, Calif.), C.J. Hinojosa (Spring, Texas), Albert Almora (Hialeah, Fla.) and Chris Chinea (Miami, Fla.) each hit doubles in consecutive at bats to put the U.S. on board 3-0 with no outs in the first. Connor Martin (San Jose, Calif.) would follow with a triple to left center, scoring Chinea, as the U.S. scored 4 runs in their first five at bats of the game.
The U.S. opened tournament play with a 16-0 win over host Guatemala on Saturday
Adrian Marin (1-0) picked up the win for Team USA as his three innings of work resulted in 4 strikeouts, no runs and one hit. Marco Lemus (0-1) took the loss for Guatemala.
Petrino came on in relief of Marin in the bottom of the fourth. Petrino surrendered a hit to the first batter of the inning, then benefited from a strikeout-caught stealing double play and then struckout the final batter to seal the day.
Almora led the team with a 3-for-3 day with 5 RBIs including a 3-run home run.
The U.S. team crushed Mexico 30-0 in the second game, scoring eight runs in the first inning. Six different players tallied multiple hits. Jeremy Martinez led the team with 5 RBIs while Hinojosa and Jonny Locher added four RBIs apiece.
