FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas backup linebacker Freddy Burton was arrested early Sunday morning and booked into the Washington County Jail on misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated and careless driving.

Burton was pulled over after a university police officer saw the sophomore's vehicle cross the centerline on Maple Street, according to Gary Crain, public information officer for the University of Arkansas Police Department.

Crain said the officer arrested Burton, 19, after giving him a field sobriety test. Burton took a breathalyzer test and blew a .13, above the legal limit of .08.

Burton was booked into the Washington County Jail at 4:16 a.m. Sunday and released nine hours later after posting an $880 bond.

He's the fourth player to be arrested since Bobby Petrino was hired as Arkansas' football coach on Dec. 11, and he's the second linebacker to get into trouble with the law.

Former Arkansas starting linebacker Freddie Fairchild was suspended indefinitely and then kicked off the team on June 11 following his arrest in late March on charges that he attacked a girlfriend and kept her against her will.

Arkansas spokesperson Kevin Trainor said Sunday afternoon that Petrino is aware of Burton's arrest and the situation will be handled accordingly.

Burton is scheduled to appear in Fayetteville District Court on July 28, roughly a week before the Razorbacks open their first preseason camp under Petrino.

Burton played in 12 games last season, but didn't make any starts and finished with 23 tackles. He was listed as Arkansas' backup strongside linebacker behind senior Elston Forte at the end of spring practice.

The Razorbacks head into the season already thin at linebacker after Fairchild was dismissed, junior Wendel Davis suffered a serious knee injury and sophomore Chip Gregory was moved to running back in the spring.
