It's March, and the Walton Arts Center's 2008-09 Broadway season doesn't get under way until mid-December. Clearly, as the brochure states, that makes all "shows, dates, times, artists and prices subject to change."

But that won't keep current Broadway subscribers from buying into the tentative lineup, announced this week, which includes the wildly popular Monty Python's "Spamalot" and "Avenue Q," which might be described as "Rent" with puppets.

Until April 25, ticket sales are open to current Broadway subscribers only. On that date, new subscribers can buy the entire Broadway season, and on July 11, single tickets to Broadway shows will become available.

On the schedule as announced are:

    • "Spamalot," Dec. 16-21: Winner of the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical, "Spamalot" is "lovingly ripped off" from the film classic "Monty Python and the Holy Grail."

    • "The Wizard of Oz," Jan. 6-11, 2009: The journey down the Yellow Brick Road is set to music with all-new special effects and choreography in a lavish touring production.

    • Cirque Eloize's "Nebbia," March 24-29, 2009. At the crossroads where acrobatic theater, modern circus and performance come together, "Nebbia" combines music, song, emotion and sensuality.

    • "Fiddler on the Roof," May 12-17, 2009: Chaim Topol, the original Tevye, returns to the role that made him a legend in this new touring production.

    • "Rain: The Beatles Experience," May 26-31, 2009: Critics say Rain looks and sounds just like the Beatles - and all the music is performed live in a multi-media, multi-dimensional experience.

Season subscribers may round out their six-show package by choosing one of three additional performances:

    • "A Comedy of Errors," by Aquila Theatre Company, Oct. 23-24: One of Shakespeare's most vibrant comedies comes to life in a production perfect for newcomers to the Bard and fans alike.

    • "Tango Fire" by Estampas Portenas, Feb. 7, 2009: The hottest tango company from Buenos Aires brings a quintet of young musicians, 10 torrid dancers and two singers to the WAC stage for a journey through the history of tango.

    • And "Avenue Q," Feb. 17-22, 2009: The 2004 Tony winner for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, "Avenue Q" is hilarious and full of hummable tunes. It is intended for mature audiences.

Broadway season tickets range from $130 to $205 for Tuesday evening performances; $140 to $282 for Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday evening shows; and $204 to $328 for Friday or Saturday evenings or Sunday afternoons. Find out more about the season by calling 443-5600 or visiting www.waltonartscenter.org.
