The Morning News
From rockers to rappers, well-known musicians are placing Northwest Arkansas on their list of tour stops. The latest performer to join this trend is T-Pain, who will be joined by Plies at 8 p.m. March 22 at the Springdale Civic Center.
The Florida singer/songwriter began creating beats as well as writing and producing his own music by the age of 10. At the turn of the 21st century, T-Pain found success with the group Nappy Headz before venturing out on his own. As a solo artist, he worked with other rappers such as Akon, and that particular connection led to T-Pain inking a deal with Konvict Music/Jive Records.
In December 2005, T-Pain released his first album, "Rappa Ternt Sanga," which went gold for selling more than 500,000 copies. Tracks off that album like "I'm Sprung" and "I'm N Luv (Wit A Stripper)" did well on the charts and reached No. 8 and No. 5 on Billboard's Hot 100, respectively.
Last June, T-Pain released his second album, "Epiphany," which went platinum. So far, the album has produced two singles, "Buy U a Drink" and "Bartender," which have peaked at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively, on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In addition to his own songs, T-Pain has collaborated with other artists - R. Kelly, T.I., and Fabolous - appeared on the Kanye West track, "Good Life," and he was recently awarded a Grammy award for Best Rap Song for his work.
Fellow Florida rapper Plies will join T-Pain, but it won't be the first time the musicians have worked together. The two collaborated on "Shawty," the first single off of Plies' debut album, "The Real Testament." The track earned significant radio play and hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart. The rapper's sophomore album, "Definition of Real," is scheduled for release in June.
Also taking the stage March 22 will be Arkansas' own SoundChild Crew. The hip hop group has performed across the United States and had hits featured on television shows like MTV's "Pimp My Ride." One of the group's other accolades includes being crowned indie Rap Artist of the Year at the 2008 Southern Entertainment Awards.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $35 in advance and will be $40 at the door. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.myspace.com/hbrosentertainment.

Tickets are on sale now for $14.50 to $18.50. The family four-pack is also available for $49 by calling (800) 965-9324 or visiting www.itickets.com.
Chapman Live
Steven Curtis Chapman is coming to Fayetteville for a concert Tuesday, and he will be joined by musical guests Will Franklin and Caleb Chapman. The show will begin at 7 p.m. at Christian Life Cathedral, at 1285 Milsap Road in Fayetteville. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the show. Five Minutes With the Band
Open Addiction
This week we feature Open Addiction, performing at 8 p.m. Monday at the Urban Table on the Square in Fayetteville.
Band Members: Justin Anderson, lead vocals/guitar; Tom Doss, vocals/guitar; Mike Smith, bass/vocals; Matt Chapko, drums
Q: What's the funniest/strangest thing that ever happened at a performance?
A: We actually were playing a show in Little Rock, and we had the entire place's electricity shut off three times during one of our songs. It was New Year's, so of course everyone was cool about it.
Q: Dream duet. If you had the chance to perform with any band/singer who would it be and why?
A: I would have to say Layne Staley from Alice In Chains. The reason is simple: He has been such a huge influence in music and life. There have been plenty of times Layne got me through the day.
Q: Where do you find inspiration for your music?
A: Mainly life, and past problems, regret ... life sums it up, though. The main goal in writing inspirational music is to get others to be able to relate to it. And if they are going through some rough times, hopefully our music can impact them.
Q: Where is your favorite place/type of venue to perform?
A: We actually don't have a favorite. If we did, I would probably say Vino's in Little Rock. The people always treat us nice, and the crowds are usually good.
Q: What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a band of their own?
A: To practice, practice, practice! Practice does in fact make perfect, especially when you're playing music, you can be able to say, "yeah, I can play it perfect." Also, don't start a band for the wrong reasons, don't do it because your friends are doing it, and don't do it to be cool. Music is not a trend.
Q: How did you come up with your band's name?
A: I have struggled with some addictions in the past, and I have hidden a lot of things about myself from people that I cared for and cared for me. The main focus on the band name is being open with yourself, and your problems. And reaching out for help when you need it.
